An orphan is a person who has lost one or both parents in connection with the death of the latter. Typically, this term applies to children under the age of majority (18 years).

On the other hand, the word “orphan” refers to any person whose social state changes as a result of funerals, in the context of the ritual, it expands and refers not only to children who lost their parents, but to everyone who has suffered personal loss, survived the death of parents, children, wife or husband.

In Ukraine, orphans are sent to specially designated for this children’s educational institutions: social and psychological rehabilitation centers, children’s homes, orphanages, boarding schools, shelters. But the most priority form of living arrangements for orphans and children left without parental care is family life: adoption, custody and guardianship, foster family.

 We can distinguish the following groups of children left without parental care:

1. underage children whose parents have died;

2. children of parents deprived of parental rights;

3. children of parents who have refused parental rights;

4. children who are brought up in a boarding school away from their parents, so that parents practically do not participate in their upbringing;

5. the child lives with his parents, but they are not up to the child.

One of the important problems of Ukraine is Social Orphanhood. With the growth of fertility there are other problems. Due to the growing alcoholism of fathers, the disintegration of families and poverty, many mothers are still abandoning their children in the maternity home, in addition, parents-alcoholics and criminals are deprived of parental rights. There was a so-called social orphanhood: orphans with living parents.

But many children living in families have a sad fate. Conflicts in families and divorces, alcoholism of parents, poverty force many children to flee the house and wander around the country. Such street children – no one knows the exact number … Even more – neglected, those who only spend the night at home, but in the day there is no supervision of parents and is brought up by the street. As a result, the crime committed by teenagers increases. Many of these children commit suicide. About half of graduates of orphanages are lost to society: some become alcoholics, others become criminals …

What is the so-called social adaptation of children, adolescents, invalids? This term actually hides concrete assistance in the formation of these or other skills: from the ability to communicate to the ability to prepare and acquire other quite professional skills. That is why every person, and even more so a child, requires a truly individual approach, and therefore the programs of the charity fund are always aimed at revealing the individual characteristics of a particular person.
